You work hard to keep your smile healthy and bright, but sometimes it just isn’t enough, especially if you do things that discolor your teeth. While smoking tobacco isn’t good for your mouth and lungs, it can also wreak havoc on your tooth enamel, turning it yellow over time. Foods like coffee, tea, and red wine can stain your enamel, and certain medications and even aging can darken the appearance of your pearly whites.
Brighter, whiter teeth are still available to you with the use of teeth whitening strips. Convenient and easy to use, they can be bought over-the-counter and usually only need to be worn for about a half an hour a day. The strips are made from flexible plastic which molds to the tooth’s surfaces and into crevices and contain a form of hydrogen peroxide to whiten the teeth. For best results, follow the manufacturer’s directions carefully.
While you are wearing tooth whitening strips, avoid eating or drinking so that the strips are not loosened and accidentally swallowed. Avoid smoking tobacco while you are wearing the strips as the heat can damage them while they are in your mouth.
Sometimes simple over-the-counter tooth whitening strips may be all you need for a quick smile makeover, and sometimes you may need a longer lasting whitening method available at our dental office. We invite you to contact us with any questions or to see which is right for you! 360.335.3998.
